Virtual drop-in for active travel links in Abington, Douglas, Leadhills and Wanlockhead

Take part in the public consultation before Sunday 13 December

Community members are invited to log on to a virtual drop-in which is taking place as part of the Make Your Way – Key Links feasibility study to improve active travel infrastructure in their areas.

The drop-in is taking place on Wednesday 2 December, 4-7pm at www.ironsidefarrar.com/keylinks/drop_in.html. Participants are advised to download the video conferencing app, Zoom, before joining.

The event is part of a wider consultation which is live until Monday 14 December, where community members are asked for their opinions on broadbrush options for new or improved routes between Abington – Abington Services, Douglas – National Cycle Network 74 and Leadhills – Wanlockhead. The consultation can be accessed here: http://www.ironsidefarrar.com/keylinks/event.html

Participants logging on will have the chance to speak to project staff about information provided in the proposal and feedback information they feel is relevant in detail.

Anyone who is unable to access the virtual drop-in can contact This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. / 01555 880 551.

Sarah O’Sullivan, Project Officer, Community Action Lanarkshire, says, “Consulting with people about the project during the COVID pandemic is challenging but we’re amazed at the amount of responses to date. The virtual drop-in adds a further opportunity to connect with project staff during a time when physical meetings are impossible.”

She continues, “Information gathered in the consultation and virtual drop-in will help identify routes and priorities for access to and around the village centres, as well as build a better picture of current active travel patterns and barriers that exist in each of the locations.”

Paper consultation surveys can also be picked up and returned to Abington General Store, Crossburn Service Station – Douglas, and Leadhills General Store. Posters containing consultation information for those without online access can also be viewed at these locations, as well as Douglas Main Street Community Noticeboard, Leadhills Community Noticeboard and Wanlockhead Community Noticeboard.

The project is funded by Sustrans’ Places for Everyone programme and managed by Rural Development Trust’s Community Action Lanarkshire programme. Ironside Farrar have been appointed as project consultants.

Sustrans’ Places for Everyone programme is funded by the Scottish Government and aims to make places safer, healthier and more attractive through increasing and improving every day active travel journeys.

It is anticipated that this initial grant will lead to the Rural Development Trust securing a future funding award from Places for Everyone to create detailed designs and ultimately install the new infrastructure over the next few years.

Log in to the virtual drop-in on Wednesday 2 December, 4-7pm at www.ironsidefarrar.com/keylinks/drop_in.html.
