Budding photographers in Carstairs Junction are being invited to enter photographs of what they love about the village into a competition, for their chance to win a £50 Amazon voucher. Download the guidelines here, or under 'Other Resources'.

The competition is open to people who live, work and visit Carstairs Junction and photos must be of something special to the photographer. This could be a place, a detail of a building, a view, a pathway, favourite thing to do in the park, person or group of people – anything the photographer wishes.

And there’s no need for any fancy equipment if you don’t have any – a snap taken on your mobile phone will do! Entries will be judged on their creativity as much as their professionalism.

Winners will be selected from an Under 16s and adult categories – all ages and photographic abilities welcome. Group submissions are encouraged, where the prize will be split between the group if the entry was to be chosen as a winner.

The competition is part of the Carstairs Junction Community-Led Action Plan process, which launched with a Community Ceilidh last Friday 7 February. A survey, asking residents what improvements they’d like to see in their village, is open until Tuesday 24 March. It can be filled in online here, or paper copies can be picked up and dropped off from Carstairs Junction Londis.

Images submitted will be exhibited at the Community-Led Action Plan Public Meeting on Tuesday 31 March, in Carstairs Junction Village Hall. Full details of the event will be announced soon.

The Community-Led Action Plan and Photo Competition are being organised by a specially formed Steering Group, made up of representatives from Carstairs Community Council, Carstairs Junction Londis, Carstairs Junction Primary School, Carstairs Junction Welcome All Hub, Carstairs Parish Church, Healthy Valleys and The Playbarn.

It is funded by LEADER with support from Community Action Lanarkshire. It is being delivered by Community Enterprise.

Victoria Palmer, Carstairs Junction Primary School says, “The photo competition allows opportunities for children and adults to explore the community and create a collection of photographs to showcase the area from the present. I look forward to seeing the entries.”
