Crawford & Elvanfoot, Glespin & Douglas communities vote feet first for pedestrian focussed projects

Residents in Crawford and Elvanfoot, Glespin and Douglas are being invited to community meetings to progress options for sustainable transport in their local settlements on Monday 6 and Thursday 7 September respectively. 

The community meetings are taking place as part of the Make Your Way project, focussing on progressing sustainable travel priorities in Crawford and Elvanfoot, Glespin, and Rigside and Douglas Water before April 2022. It is part of a year on year programme, running since 2016, which targets sustainable travel in rural Lanarkshire and has included community mapping and the development of Sustainable Travel Action Plans to date. 

Communities were asked to vote for which sustainable transport focussed projects they wished to progress as part of a public vote through community surveys in June.  

Crawford and Elvanfoot 

For Crawford and Elvanfoot, votes returned to progress a Feasibility Study for speed reduction and pedestrian safety options. Alan Jones Associates has since been appointed to carry out the study, taking place between now and March 2022. Glespin and Douglas 

For Glespin, votes were returned to progress a Feasibility Study for an active travel path between Glespin and Douglas. This compliments existing Concept Designs for an active travel pathway between Douglas and NCN74. Alan Jones Associates has since been appointed to carry out the study, taking place between now and March 2022. The programme is supported by Paths for All’s Smarter Choices Smarter Places, Strathclyde Passenger Transport and South Lanarkshire Council’s Renewable Energy Fund. It is managed by Rural Development Trust’s Community Action Lanarkshire programme.  

This year’s Make Your Way project also includes a programme of community and school cycling activities and training, the development of sustainable travel information booklets, and the installation of Make Your Way mapboards and wayfinding in each of the communities.
