A group of local community organisations, working with Community Action Lanarkshire, have recently asked Community Links South Lanarkshire to support them in producing an action plan for Lesmahagow, Brocketsbrae and Hawksland.

Ailsa Lorimer from the project steering group says “Lesmahagow is a great place to live, but we can make it better. This action plan will help us be clear about the kind of changes we want to make happen, and to influence service providers to do the right things here.”

A programme of community consultation has now kicked off and we really need as many local people as possible to participate. This will offer everyone in the community a chance to have their say about what is good, and what could be better about living in Lesmahagow. A survey has been launched and is available here - www.placestandard.scot/start/lesmahagow-brocketsbrae-community-action-plan

Colin Duff, a community engagement specialist from Community Links South Lanarkshire, will soon be out and about meeting people and arranging to visit local community groups. Colin says “An action plan is a great way for a community to come together on a set of agreed priorities, and to get things done more effectively. To do that, the plan needs to be based on the views of the people who live and work in Lesmahagow. It also helps clarify what the community can do for itself, and what they can do in conjunction with key partners.”

This project is being supported by Community Action Lanarkshire which is managed by the Rural Development Trust and supported by LEADER as part of the Scottish Rural Development Programme until September 2020. LEADER is co-funded by the European Union and supports eligible projects in rural areas.
