Second stage surveys launched
Sandford and Upper Avondale Community Council are urging residents to complete a second stage community survey, to inform a community-led action plan which is to be launched in spring.
The plan will set out a five-year vision for the area. It will identify a list of priority projects which residents feel will make the community a better place to live, work and play.
Paper surveys will be delivered to each address in and around Caldermill, Drumclog, Dungavel, Gilmourton, Lambhill and Sandford, week beginning Monday 25 November. The survey will also be available online at https://www.surveymonkey.co.
These second stage surveys follow an initial postal survey sent out to residents earlier this year and will pull out details of potential projects identified in the first phase survey.
The surveys are taking place alongside workshops with Gilmourton Primary School and Sandford Primary School, and consultation with the Avondale Young Farmers, to gain a broad spectrum of community opinion.
They follow an initial household survey which took place earlier in the year, providing the opportunity for residents to detail and prioritise ideas which came out in the first survey.
The community-led action plan is being led by Sandford and Upper Avondale Community Council (SUACC) with support from LEADER funded Community Action Lanarkshire, and is being delivered by Community Links Scotland.
The plan is funded by Banks, ahead of the launch of Kype Muir Community Fund (KMCBF), to provide financial assistance to community groups, voluntary organisations and the local community. The fund will be shared equally between council areas of Lesmahagow; Sandford and Upper Avondale; Stonehouse; and Strathaven and Glassford.
Sarah O’Sullivan, Development Officer for Community Action Lanarkshire said, “These surveys are a great way for people to really have a say in what matters most to them locally, and to create a collective voice. People have already said that they want new and improved foot and cycle paths, community transport, access to sustainable transport, improved broadband and mobile reception, as well as improvements made to the village halls.
She continues, “By taking part in this second stage survey, people can share details on what type of improvements they’d like to see and where, what community transport would be used for and what additional activities people would like to see and more.”
The finalised community-led action plan will be used to initiate the projects identified, serving as evidence of what the community needs for potential funders and partners.
Trish Munro, SUACC says, “We would like to encourage as many people to participate and share their views as possible. The Community Council are looking forward to finding out what people think in order to come up with a plan that takes into account everyone’s opinions.”
