This series of active travel maps have been created in collaboration with community members from Abington, Crawford and Elvanfoot, Crawfordjohn, Douglas, Glespin, Lamington, Leadhills and Rigside. They form a collection of eight co-designed maps that highlight cycling and walking routes that are known to local people. These routes can be used for practical journeys, for leisure and for exercise.
The maps also include information on local services, amenities, and point of interest as well as highlighting the benefits of active travel for your health and the environment. If you are a visitor, please respect the local community - use active travel, public transport or if you are driving, use designated parking areas. Take your litter home or dispose of it in bins provided.

River Walk
Total Distance - 2.3 km
Time - 40min to 1 hour
-
1. From the Abington General Store, walk along Carlise Rd and take a left towards the bridge over the Clyde.
-
2. Before you cross the bridge, hop over the stile on your right and follow the path along the river to the small ruin.
-
3. Turn back towards the village and take the path on your left heading away from the river, with the walk ending next to the fire station.
-
4. When you loop away from the river and back towards the village, a tarmac route takes you through a storage area for portakabins. This leads on to an open gate after which you turn right, back into the village along The 'Hainings' Right of Way route.
-
5. If you don't fancy walking through the portakabins, you can get to the same open gate by cutting through a trodden grassy route approximately 50m in front of the kabins. For this route, walk towards the trees, and go right, following the fence line back to the tarmac route after the kabins, and link up with the open gate.
