As part of Community Action Lanarkshire(CAL) Make Your Way Fit for the Future – Primary School Engagement Project, CAL recently carried out community mapping exercises with Primary Schools in rural Clydesdale (Abington, Coalburn, Coulter, Douglas & Rigside) to co-curate a map of a walk in their area which now features on Go Jauntly
Pupils from each school walked around their community to places where they spend their time whilst thinking how they would present their village to visitors. From Buzzards, a Ribbon Tree, Deer to Kissing Gates & pre-historic cultivation terraces there certainly was lots of wildlife, flora, fauna, heritage & more to see on each of the routes; the weather certainly didn’t deter the pupils as you will see from the videos!
Pupils talked about their experiences of walking & wheeling in their villages & also the obstacles they found in their way when outside. These conversations helped create the maps & encouraged the pupils to visualise their community. Working with the Schools & pupils must be one of our favourite mapping activities!
