This Saturday saw the celebration of a nine week school cycling project throughout rural South Lanarkshire. Wishaw-based cycling social enterprise Socialtrack was out in schools in Rigside, Douglas, Abington, Crawford, Lamington and Leadhills engaging the kids with cycling, bike maintenance and having fun on two wheels.

The event in Rigside celevbrated this fantastic programme with a mobile pump track, mountain biking sessions, free cycling lessons and pointers as well as a cafe hosted by Healthy Valleys. For some it was their first time ever on a bike, while for others it was a chance to show off their skills and interact with other enthusiastic riders.

The nine week cycling programme is part of the Make Your Way project, which also included Sustainable Travel Action Plans for nine rural communities, and a feasibility study for a community hub in Crawford. This is a Community Action Lanarkshire project, and is funded by Paths for All's Smarter Choices Smarter Places fund, South Lanarkshire Council, Lanarkshire Leader and the Rural Development Trust.
