The Rural Development Trust wishes to commission an Active Travel Campaign for nine rural school communities throughout South Lanarkshire. This campaign is one part of Make Your Way, a project supported by South Lanarkshire Council and Paths for All Smarter Choices Smarter Places (SCSP) fund. This project will run concurrently with a Community Active Travel programme for the same communities, with the aim of cross participation.

This project will build on the highly successful previous Smarter Choices Smarter Places funded work undertaken with the primary schools in Abington, Crawford, Lamington, Douglas, Rigside and Leadhills. This programme will run parallel to a Community Active Travel programme, with the aim of engaging the wider community with cycling and walking locally, exploring local active travel routes and links to sustainable/public transport.

This campaign will provide a programme of activities at six rural primary schools in South Lanarkshire, with the aim of encouraging the use of cycling as a means of local travel, thereby encouraging more active and sustainable travel. The activities will include basic and (depending on group experience) more intermediate cycling techniques and maintenance instruction, and awareness raising of cycling as an option for getting around. The programme will finish with a celebratory event or series of events with the purpose of showcasing the project and encouraging pupils of the various schools to come together.
