Residents in Carstairs Junction are being asked to share their views about the future, and what they’d like to see happen in their village, by taking part in a Community Survey.

Answers will inform the Carstairs Junction Community-Led Action Plan, which will identify the community’s priorities over the next five years. The final plan will highlight particular projects that the community would like to work on together to make their community a better place to live, work and play. The plan will be able to be used as evidence by community groups seeking funding or by organisations who deliver services in that community.

Residents can fill out the survey online here, or pick up and drop off a paper copy from Carstairs Junction Londis, before Tuesday 24 March.

The Community-Led Action Plan process will be launched at a Community Ceilidh in Carstairs Junction Village Hall, Friday 7 February. Tickets are free but must be booked by clicking here, or calling Community Enterprise on 01506 862 227.

The plan is being organised by a specially formed Steering Group, made up of representatives from Carstairs Community Council, Carstairs Junction Londis, Carstairs Junction Primary School, Carstairs Junction Welcome All Hub, Carstairs Parish Church, Healthy Valleys and The Playbarn.

The community-led action plan is funded by LEADER with support from Community Action Lanarkshire. It is being delivered by Community Enterprise.

Dot Watson, Carstairs Junction Welcome All Hub says, “This survey is a chance for residents of Carstairs Junction to provide their thoughts and opinions on their community while providing the Steering Group with the relevant information needed to ensure an accurate action plan is created by the Community for the Community.”

A Photo Competition will also take place as part of the process, asking residents to share photos of what they love about the village for their chance to win a £50 Amazon voucher. There is an Under 16’s and an adult category. Full details can be found here.

The plan is just one of many community-led action plans that are being, or have been, created throughout the country. There has been a drive from Scottish Government, connected to the Community Empowerment Act 2015, to encourage community planning at a local level.

It is recognised that the process creates an ambition for the future that is relevant, inclusive and meaningful. It ensures communities can protect and develop what is of greatest value to them, as well as acting as a transformational tool for change. Plans can lead to more volunteering, increased number of local projects and deeper partnerships with local organisations.
